So last night I went to a local event from a site I frequent.  www.nerdnyc.com Once a month they get together and have a board game night at a cafe.  It the second one I have been too and it is a lot of fun.

So I have wanted to play the Battlstar Galactica boardgame for some time. Mostly to see if it is worth buying or not.  :)  I have heard people play and say how hard it is to win the game.  The premise is simple, humanity has to survive the cylons.  The cool thing is when you start the game, at least one or two people (depending on how many are playing) can be cylon and try to undermine the game.  That part was a bit daunting at first since it was my first time playing, but it was fun.  Especially since everyone knows someone has to be a cylon, and the banter that came from it. 

The other cool thing was the game comes with quite a few players to choose from (Starbuck, Apollo, Adama, Roslin, Tigh, Baltar, Tyril, Boomer, Helo and one other I cannot rember).  The guy that brought the game also had printed out an expansion, made by fans of the game, that brought others into the game.  You could play Athena, Kat, Hot Dog, and a host of others.  That was kind of cool, cuz it gave you a ton of other options.

I chose Felix Gaeta, and I was a cylon from the beginning.  :)  I actualyl ended up making humanity lose, cuz I made us jump the FTL drives and because of that it made the population meter go below zero.  I am quite proud of the actually, because cylons rule!

Anyways.  The game was a lot of fun. 

Had anyone else played it?  Or can you suggest another great game?

God damn I am nerd! 

I cannot remember the last time I have been this excited about a television show.  Maybe season 2 of Heroes and lord knows that did not turn out the way I wanted it too, or possibly Battlestar.  But it is funny to see both Natalie and I giving each other high five's cuz the season premiere of Lost was coming on last night.  In fairness to her, she is not NEARLY as nerdy as I could ever be, but this is the one thing we both get really geeky about.  So that is completely ok with me.

I love this show.  The characters are amazing and every year they switch something up, just to knock you out of y our comfort zone.  I really think the show has gotten better over time and their decision to wrap it up by 2010 and only show 16 episodes a year has really cleaned up some of the writing.  Especially for those (and there were a few of you) who had a problem with season 3.  I was not one of those.  :)  I thought it was great as well. 

But the characters are awesome.  You get to find out so much about them over the show and how much their characters can really grow, and possibly even more telling, how little you really know about people's past.  People are capable of doing almost anything (both good and bad), and you see that in these characters.  Yes, some of them die and I have to admit I have shed a tear or two when someone i have invested time with passes on.  But unless they are willing to kill off some of main characters, no one is really willing to believe the threat of death. 

I love the island.  So many different things go on here that are beyond what you would or could expect.  I don't want to go into TOO much for those that may not have seen this amazing show as of  yet.  But if you haven't, get with it people? 

Bottom line is this show is amazing and only getting better.
