The future...

I sat at home yesterday watching our new President give his speech and it moved me in ways that nothing political ever has.  To be fair, I have never really been actively into anything that dealt with politics.  I voted, but that was about it.  The rest I was more than willing to ignore because of how angry people tend to get when they are defending their party.

All of this changed eight years ago when Bush came into office.  It was not a quick change, but the longer we were at war (if that is what you want to call it) with Iraq for reasons I have never been able to understand, the more I began to pay attention and notice what the political process was about.  I also lived in Oklahoma at the time and my views were not very popular since it is such a Republican dominated state.

Then in 2003 I moved from Oklahoma to New York.  It was such a odd and quick change and the difference in political views here are astounding.  It was like night and day.  I still did not really like to get into to too many political discussions with people, but I could feel the walls weakening a bit.  It was getting harder to avoid the conversations when I actually had something to say about it.  This upset a bit because I really don't like how angry people can be when it comes to religion and politics.  It makes the nicest people irrational and upset.

But the last few years have changed everything to me.  Maybe it is because friends of mine are more politically active and I have been caught up in it.  Maybe it is because I became fed up with the direction our country is going.  It could be one of dozens of things, but I am definately motivated and involved in what happens now.

I was touched quite a bit by what i saw yesterday.  Part of this was because me and my girlfriend Natalie watched the first part of John Adams on DVD the night before and it touched me in a very profound way.   History always does that to me.  But listening to Obama yesterday, I saw a man that was passionate about what needs to change in our country.  A man that will lead us back to the country we are all proud to be a part of.  A man that will help lead us out of the darkness we seem to be in right now.

A man I truly believe in.  God bless Barack Obama and the people in this country who realized a change was what we needed.
