Miscommuncation sucks...

  • Jun. 20th, 2008 at 12:08 AM

Yeah, just as the title says, miscommunation on any leve sucks.  But especially when you are trying to make a game with a few of your closest friends and somehow you misread something they were trying to say.  Or they did not do a good job of clarifying what they mean.  Both sides are wrong in that case and you end up making something out of nothing.

My friend Chris put something on his blog that upset me.  I felt it implied something about me that did not seem to be true.  The second problem was not exactly keeping my friends in the loop as to what I was doing regarding certain networking aspects of our project.

As usual with the fact that in this age people rarely talk face to face, we are left to decipher text messages, emails and blogs.  Don't get me wrong I am a huge fan of the blog (or email), but that doesn't mean they are always clear.  Lets face it sometimes when you put something on a blog, it does not come out the way you mean for it too.  Hell, that happens to me as well.  But in this case I ended up getting upset and it took an email or two for us to get things resolved.

Lesson #1.  Communicate better and be careful what you type in a blog or email.  Say what you mean to say and there will be no problems (usually).
Lesson #2.  Communicate better and let your partners know what you are up too.  That way they are not surprised by anything.

The positive that came out of this is that Chris and I may have a better understanding of each other and maybe we can use this as a positive moving forward.

Glad everything got handled. I remember reading chris's blog and going "What?". I was hoping it didn't have anything to do with me. Sorry if it was, but again... i'm glad that you have hashed everything out with your good friend. :-)

It had everything to do with you. :) But I see his point where I tend to go off by myself and not really let them know what is going on. On the flip side he learned to be careful what you put on a blog. :) Overall I think it is something that will help us.

Well, i'm still here if you need me. But if the rest of your group has hesitations about collaboration, i understand and wish you great luck in the future. :-D And i'll definitely play test anything you come up with for you as well.

I don't see an issue. I think I just have to be more forthcoming with what I am doing. I have enjoyed chatting with you and look forward to do so in the future.
